The HYPER-14 is the first step toward a rugged variant of a PVS-14 night vision device. The new rugged design can overcome most common causes of field-related failures. The HYPER-14 provides superior protection from common causes of field failures, including recoil, shock, drop and intrusion from sand, water or dust incursion, while reinforced walls provide superior tube alignment even under harsh battlefield conditions. A new titanium lock ring offers a hard mount point, allowing the HYPER to be used as a weapon sight on heavy caliber weapons. The HYPER-14 chassis are made of 76G 7000 series aluminum, far exceeding the environmental requirements of a standard device. With reinforced heli-coil junctures and a custom gasket seal to protect the electronics, the HYPER can withstand significant stress and still provide superior night vision. The HYPER-14 NVD updated rugged chassis supports legacy image tubes, J-arms, weapon mounts and batteries, but features reinforced heli-coil junctures to prevent stripping. Optical threads have been strengthened to support long range lenses for night vision observation or weapon sights.
